New OS Update in BlackBerry Supports Android Apps Too!

16 March 2015

Montreal: The latest news buzzing around is that, the BlackBerry devices can now run Android applications after the recent update on their operating system. BlackBerry’s new operating system 10.3.1 provides the usual access to BlackBerry World app store and has also entered Amazon app store where the users can download a wide variety of Android apps. The recent OS update has started to roll out for BlackBerry Passport, Z3, Z30, Q10, Z10, Q5 and several other BB 10 devices. This update came at the right time when BlackBerry had tumbled down into the bottom.

In the previous analysis, the global market share of BlackBerry was even less than 1% as most of the buyers were attracted towards Android and Apple. But still, the company did not give up; instead they continued to battle along with the dominants by launching some new smartphones like BlackBerry Passport and Classic with the hopes of enticing the customers who likes to use physical QWERTY keyboards and other features of BlackBerry. It also continues to release frequent updates with some new features designed to attract new users. The ability to run Android apps is one of the main features that persuade users to try BlackBerry phones.

The latest OS update from BlackBerry adds several other features as well:

  • Voice assistance: The BlackBerry Assistant is the company’s new attempt to provide voice assistance like Cortana, Siri and Google Now. The first digital assistant of BlackBerry is designed to assist you to work with your apps by responding to the questions in one or the other way. When you just type something, the assistant responds silently and if you speak something, it responds by its voice.
  • Instant actions: BlackBerry Blend displays documents, mails, text messages and other contents in phone on the tablet or a computer. Its hub has been improved with a new option called “Instant Actions”. This lets you manage your inbox without having to go through each individual email.
  • Meeting mode: The new update features a Meeting mode which sets your phone to silent mode when you are in a meeting and later turns it to normal mode once you get out of the meeting. For this, BlackBerry has added a few keyboard shortcuts for the phones that have a physical keyboard where you can assign a shortcut for each key.
  • Panoramic feature: Camera has also been upgraded with some special features like panorama and other enhancements. It also promises that there will be 15% jump in the battery life even if you use camera for quite long time.

It’s being said that the updated OS version is already rolling out in Middle East, Europe, Asia Pacific and Africa. Recently, the Canadian customers have started receiving the updates and in North America, it’s expected to arrive very shortly.
